HANDS UP
This drawing was inspired by the event that took place in Ferguson, Mo. It's something I myself had dealt with & continue to deal with.
There is a separation of cultural experience. I think the 1st step to understanding is communication. I my myself, was placed in an awkward position with friends of others races, who had never had to experience such treatment & in turn found it difficult to both believe and expect. Also given what they felt they knew of me personally, found difficult to except.
For days I remained silent listening to the voices of the inexperienced comparing the actions of what took place out of fear & frustration, not once expressing an understanding that that's where these actions came from. ...so I stood in the midst of this and shared my experiences; being beaten, kidnapped, forced to put on gang colors & dropped off in rival neighborhoods, drugs & cases planned on me, unlawfully searched & arrested, forced to spend 10s of 1000s of dollars, bail yourself out & reclaim your property, cars even stolen by police involvement...
Don't get me wrong. This does not represent my views of all officers...
...so all those action show not rule your views of all that protest.
